RhytidectomyAs part of the natural aging process, many people start to experience sagging skin and fat deposits in their neck and jaw line areas, problems which are traditionally addressed through facelift surgery.

Age is a large factor in what procedure is best for you, but how you look and feel is what best determines if you should get a facelift or other cosmetic surgery to reduce the visible signs of aging.

The force of gravity pulls downward on our face and this droop can affect the eyebrows, which in turn affect the upper eyelids, pulling them downward and creating a tired look to the face.

A facelift is a surgical operation to lift up the facial tissues and skin and/or the underlying muscle, in order to have a tighter and smoother face. A facelift (also called a rhytidectomy) is necessary when we age because our facial muscles become slacker and the skin on the face loses its elasticity, creating folds and lines.

With a better knowledge of anatomy, the new facelift procedures transferred the skin tension to the deeper anatomical layers. Technically, normal facelift operations tightened only the skin, placing all the tension on the suture line. Excess skin is removed, which lifts the outer ends of the eyebrows slightly, but doesn’t lift the center ends.

There are several types of face lift including a full face lift, to others which lift only the brow, lower face or neck on an individual basis. A facelift used to be the only option open to those who wished for personal or professional reasons to restore a youthful glow to our faces.
